5 Ways to Increase Sales When Business Feels Slow

Have you ever gotten discouraged because you feel like business is moving too slowly and you don’t really know how to get the sales ball rolling? We all have those “slow seasons,” right?

You might be wondering how to get more clients to your business. How to get more team members. What are some strategies to increase sales? Everybody’s always looking for the “secret sauce” amirite?!

As a business owner, you are responsible for your actions.

You can’t waste time waiting for the next big incentive from your company.

The next wave of “momentum.” The next product launch. The next BIG sale.

You have to be the one showing up, creating excitement, and driving the results.

1. Study your product

If you’re shopping for a new house, do you want your realtor to dabble in home sales here and there? 

Or do you want one that’s an expert? 

That knows the laws, codes, and that specific neighborhood like the back of their hand. That’s going to look the house up and down. Tell you everything you could possibly want to know about the house before you invest your hard-earned money in it.

No brainer, right?

So, why is your product any different? 

No matter what industry you’re in, the same applies to you. People don’t want to buy their skin care, supplements, or anything else they’re investing money in from someone who can’t answer their questions. 

One way to increase sales is to show up as the expert.

This doesn’t mean that you need to word-vomit every single little detail of everything you know about the product when they ask questions. But the better equipped you are, the more questions you can answer. The more questions you can answer, the more value you provide. The more value you provide, the more they can trust you. When they trust you and see you know what you’re talking about when it comes to what you’re selling, the more likely they are to trust you with their hard-earned money. See where this is going…?

It doesn’t have to be a ton of your time. But take even an hour a week.

Pick one product and break it alllllllllll the way down. What are the benefits of the product? Name every possible reason someone might want to buy it. Look at the ingredient list. Pick a few of the active ingredients and look up the benefits of those. (Google is your BFF if you haven’t discovered that already!) 

If you do this consistently, you’ll be able to talk about your products like no one else can. You’ll know all the ins and outs and it’s going to help position you as the go-to person in your industry!

2. Read a personal development book

Personal development is the single most important thing you can do in business. Hands down.

Not only are these books a good little kick in the booty when you need it, but they also help you really understand more about your work style and what you can do to serve your people well (to ultimately increase sales). I’ve also found that personal development books help me get really creative and come up with new content ideas to inspire others on social media.

We all need a good gut check every once in a while.

And friend, you can’t pour from an empty cup. In order to serve your clients and your team well, you have to fill yourself first.

    • Waitley emphasizes the importance of having a winning attitude to cultivate the determination and mental fortitude to reach your goals. Winners set realistic, measurable goals to achieve and keep setting more once they have achieved them. Setbacks are expected and seen as minor.

3. Write a training

You might feel a little discouraged with this advice. Honestly, I felt the same way when I first heard it.

“What if I don’t have a team to train?”

Just because you don’t have a team doesn’t mean you can’t teach something. It also doesn’t mean you can’t teach someone else’s team something that you do really well! Are you good at managing your time? Have a passion for learning social media? Really been rocking email marketing for your customers? Have an inspirational message you think someone needs to hear? Teach someone about it! 

“I’m not an expert. I don’t know enough to teach someone something.”

That’s what’s called Imposter Syndrome talking because it’s absolutely not true. One thing I’ve learned recently really changed my perspective on this topic, and I hope you’ll feel the same.

Again, positioning yourself as a leader in your industry is going to give you the confidence you need to be successful. Confident conversations ultimately lead to increased sales.

You’ve got everything you need to teach or encourage someone. Don’t talk yourself out of it!

4. Brain dump ideas for social media content

In about 20 minutes, you can come up with a list of ideas for social media content. This is a really helpful social media content strategy! 

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to think of ideas for social media content creation

  1. List 5 topics you want to talk about regularly. Business, products, kids, ideas for moms, social media tips, etc.
  2. Brain dump ideas under each category. What are some specific topics you can talk about for each? (Think of an objective you get often that you can handle. What’s your favorite product right now and why? Is there something you’ve been loving about Instagram Reels? Tell them!)
  3. Pick one idea from each category to post about! Easy peasy because you already have your ideas listed out! No more “I don’t know what to post!”

Not only does this work for your IG grid, but you’ve also got ideas you can use in several places! Use that same topic for IG stories, FB stories, LinkedIn, your personal FB page, and anywhere else you post regularly!

Don’t forget, the more consistently you show up, show your face, and provide value for your audience, the more they think of you. The more they think of you, the more they trust you. The more they trust you, the more they buy from you.

5. Instagram Takeover

Speaking of IG- something I love watching is IG takeovers! This one is fun!

What in the world is an Instagram takeover!? So glad you asked! 

An Instagram takeover is when someone literally takes over your Insta!

Let’s say you have a friend that you LOVE watching her stories. She’s so uplifting and encouraging. You look forward to watching her stories every day because she makes you feel like a million bucks. You want to share her with the world, or at least with your followers. You’d have her actually take over your ‘gram for the day and share her message with your followers! It’s sort of like a day-in-the-life with someone else. You can also do this for her! If you have a message you think her followers would like to hear, offer to do a trade!

This gets you in front of eyes that you’d otherwise likely never reach! 

Not sure what to talk about for a takeover? Do a content brain dump!

Don’t know enough to teach someone? Refer to the previous section on writing a training.

Bonus: Attend an Event

Good news! Events, trainings, and conferences have never been more accessible. This newfound virtual world has brought the most sought-after conferences straight to your computer (and often for less $$ than before)!! 

Head on over to our BFF Google and find an event in your industry. Search for that conference you’ve always wanted to go to and see if you can attend virtually! This is a great way to get those creative juices flowing and come up with new content ideas!

Get together with some girlfriends and sideline partners to put together your own fun virtual event! Nowadays, people are looking for fun, new ways to connect with others. Give the people what they want!

Don’t let yourself get discouraged if you feel like you’re moving too slowly.

The work you do now is going to show up in 3-6 months from now.

Keep showing up + doing the work, even if you aren’t seeing immediate results. Now that you’ve got some new tools to help you feel unstuck and empowered, go forth and conquer! Do something that’s going to move the needle in your business!
