The Day Designer Planner helps you stay organized, on track, and on top of your seemingly never-ending to-do list. After trying multiple different ones, this is the best daily planner I’ve found!
Have you ever felt behind? Like there’s so much happening, but you’re struggling to keep up? Maybe you’re just flying by the seat of your pants and hoping you show up to the right appointment on the right day.
Or maybe you have an idea of what’s happening, you’d just like a better way to organize it all.
Several years ago, I found a Day Designer Planner at Target and my OCD heart was immediately filled with joy. My very first Day Designer planner was an 8″x10 ” massive notebook that broke every single day of the year down into 30-minute increments. I have to admit — it wasn’t easy carrying that giant planner around, but (at the risk of sounding dramatic) I can honestly say that planner changed my life.
At the time, I was a newlywed, brand new nurse, and business owner. I had to be a big girl and it was V E R Y overwhelming. I’d never budgeted a day in my life. I’d never had to balance everything that goes into homeownership, a full-time job, and managing a business. Not to mention having a [kind of] social life. And honestly, I wasn’t doing a great job at juggling it all.
I’ve tried several other planners. I’ve tried the completely electronic approach — which I very quickly discovered is not for me. Just like anything else you start using and fall in love with, I found myself comparing it to the Day Designer. Nothing else compared.
#2: Time Blocking
I tend to work best when I have one specific topic to focus on. When my mind is all over the place, I get lost. I’ve found that the best way to prevent this from happening is to have time carved out for important things like time to work my business, write blog posts, and (not quite often enough) rest.
In the Day Designer Planners, every day is broken down into one-hour increments. This way, you can go through and schedule out your appointments and things you can’t move (like work, school, kids’ activities, etc.) and then you can plan the rest of your day around that. This also helps to make sure you’re not adding too many things to your plate in a day! There’s only so much you can do with your precious time!
I like to go through my planner at night look at the list of things that I’ve written on my to-do list for the next day (or few days). I’ll write down anything else that comes to mind that I need to (or would like to) take care of over the next few days. Then I schedule my time.
Some days don’t quite go as planned — and that’s totally okay!! If something comes up or you don’t get to a task you thought you would, you can just write it in on the to-do list for one day coming up and get to it then!
