National Lash Day

Have you ever seen those strange national “holidays”? You’ve probably seen someone on Instagram celebrating “National Margarita Day” or “National Pizza Day” but today, we’re celebrating “National Lash Day”!! Having the right lash serum and tools are critical to helping make your lashes look longer! Today, we’ll be talking all about lashes and how you can step up your lash game!

What do eyelashes do?

So, why are your lashes even important? They actually serve a lot more purposes than most of us realize. Of course, they serve their functional purposes like keeping dirt and debris out of your eyes. They also act as somewhat of sensors for your eyes so that your eyes can blink as a reflex if something is about to get in your eye.

Did you know?

As we age, our lashes are actually one of the first signs that tell on us??

As we get older, our hair and skin don’t retain water and stay hydrated as well. You may notice your skin feeling drier as you age, but your lashes do the same. They become more dry, brittle, and prone to breaking. This leaves us with thin, stubby lashes that need layers and layers of mascara.

How to Make Your Eyelashes Longer

There are a couple of ways to make your lashes look longer, thicker, and help your eyes really pop!

Fake lashes have become more and more popular lately. Lash extensions, lashes you glue on yourself, magnetic lashes, the list goes on! I personally have never tried fake lashes, but I do have friends that rave about them!

From the research I’ve done, it looks like these magnetic lashes are one of the easiest for beginners.

My favorite way to give you those lush, beautiful lashes is by using a lash serum

Lash Serum

Although lash serums take a little longer to give you the results you’re looking for, they are the easiest and most natural-looking way to help your lashes look longer and thicker. lash serum

How Do Lash Serums Work?

Generally speaking, lash serums condition the lashes to help them grow stronger and avoid breaking as easily. The ingredients differ based on the type of lash serum you choose. Think of it as a deep conditioning treatment, but for your lashes.

What to Look for in a Lash Serum

Not all lash serums are created equally, and protecting your eyes is so important. Make sure your lash serum has been tested by ophthalmologists. Many people are concerned about lash serums turning their eyes a different color. If that’s the case for you, avoid products with the ingredient bimatoprost in them (the active ingredient in Latisse).

My personal favorite lash serum is Rodan+Fields Lash Boost. It’s super easy to apply and the results speak for themselves!

Another thing to pay attention to is the amount of serum in the product you’re buying. While a lot of serums may appear cheaper (this could also be because they don’t give you as great of results), a lot of serums only have 1-3 mL of the product inside vs 5mL included in Lash Boost.

How to Apply Lash Boost

It’s incredibly easy! Just one swipe on your top lash line before bed and you’re done! You’ll see results anywhere from 4-8 weeks!

Favorite Mascara

Do you ever have problems with your mascara flaking? Maybe you’ve tried brand after brand and nothing lived up to your expectations? (My oily-skin friends, you feel my pain, right?!) thrive mascara

A friend of mine introduced me to Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions mascara and I don’t know if I could ever use another brand.

This mascara is a tube mascara which means no flaking — so you can be confident that your lashes look gorgeous all day!

Another thing I love about this Thrive mascara (other than how philanthropic the company is) is that they have a subscription. This means you can put your mascara on a 3-month autoship and actually replace it as often as you’re supposed to! (I know sis, I’m with you. I won’t tell anyone we haven’t replaced our tubes for 8 months.)

The Cure for Mascara Clumps

If you’re someone that obsesses over perfectly spaced-out lashes, how to have long lashesor even just want to make sure you don’t have giant clumps of mascara — this little tool is for you!

It’s like a little comb for your lashes! I found mine at Ulta a couple of years ago and it’s been a staple in my makeup bag since!

All you have to do is start at the base of your lashes and comb through. It helps remove excess mascara for a more natural, defined look. And the best part — it’s only $4.99

Don’t Forget the Brows!

We know longer, fuller-looking lashes can help you look younger and brighter. While you’re at it, make sure you don’t forget those brows! They help frame your face and give you a more put-together look.
